Start your trip with a visit to the highest peak in Karnataka, Mullayanagiri. Enjoy panoramic views of the Western Ghats while sipping on a cup of hot coffee from the nearby cafes. Take a short yet adventurous trek to the top of the mountain and witness the breathtaking sunset. Nature lovers can enjoy the flora and fauna found here, especially the Rhododendron flowers in full bloom during March and April.
Today, visit the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and explore the wildlife of this region. Take a jeep safari inside the sanctuary and spot tigers, leopards, and elephants from closer. The sanctuary is also home to a variety of bird species including Malabar Grey Hornbills and Great Indian Hornbills. Trek to the nearby Kudremukh peak or kayak in the Bhadra river. End your day with a campfire and stargazing at the nearby homestays.
On your last day at Chikmagalur, head to Bababudangiri, a mountain range known for its shrines and coffee plantations. Visit the ancient Dattatreya Peetha and the shrine of Baba Budan, a 17th-century Sufi saint, and a respected saint among both Muslims and Hindus. Continue your journey to Manikyadhara Falls, a serene waterfall surrounded by dense forests. Take a refreshing bath at the waterfall and enjoy local snacks from the nearby stalls.
If you have more time, visit the Coffee Museum and explore the history and geography of coffee plantations in Chikmagalur. Add a day to your itinerary to explore the nearby Mullayanagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and trek to the stunning Hebbe Falls. If you have less time, skip the Kudremukh peak trek and spend more time enjoying nature at Mullayanagiri or Bababudangiri.
