Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is a perfect spot to start your adventure tour in Wayanad. A guided 3-hour jeep safari can take you through the dense forest where you can spot various wildlife including elephants, tigers, and leopards. During the safari, you will also learn about different types of flora and fauna in the jungle.
Chembra Peak is the tallest mountain in Wayanad and offers an amazing trekking experience. It usually takes around 3-4 hours to reach the top and back. The trek is a bit challenging, but you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys from the top. Don't forget to carry enough water and food as there are no vendors on the way.
Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earthen dam in India. A speedboat ride, kayaking, or a trek to the nearby hills around the dam are some of the activities you can enjoy here. The view of the dam from the nearby hills is stunning. If you have time, you can also visit the nearby Meenmutty waterfalls which are around 30 minutes away from the dam.
If you have extra time, you can visit other places in Wayanad such as Edakkal Caves, Soochipara Waterfalls, and Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. However, if you have less time, skip Banasura Sagar Dam and visit one of the above-mentioned places instead. Also, make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for trekking and carry enough water and snacks for the trip. Lastly, avoid visiting during the monsoon season (June-September) as many places might be closed due to heavy rain.
