Begin your journey by exploring Fort Kochi, an old town known for its rich history and colonial-era architecture. Head to Santa Cruz Basilica, one of the oldest churches in India, and then wander through the narrow streets lined with quaint shops and cafes. Don't miss the Chinese Fishing Nets, a unique way of fishing that dates back to the 14th century. End your day watching a performance at the Kathakali Centre, a traditional dance theatre.
Travel to Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerla. Visit the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, a magnificent Hindu temple and a marvel of Dravidian architecture. Explore the Napier Museum, a 19th-century building that houses an exquisite collection of ornaments, sculptures, and musical instruments. Take a stroll through the lush greenery of the Zoological Gardens.
Take a scenic drive to Munnar, located in the Western Ghats. Visit the Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, and explore the beautiful tea gardens. Walk through the tea factory to learn about the tea-making process. Take a hike up to the Lakkam Waterfalls, a breathtaking cascade where you can take a dip.
End your journey by exploring Kochi further. Start with a visit to the Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Then, head to St. Francis Church, India's oldest European church, where the famous explorer, Vasco da Gama, was buried. Take a ferry ride to Vypeen Island and relax at the Cherai Beach, where you can enjoy the view of the Arabian Sea and savour local seafood.
If you have more time, add a visit to Alleppey and take a backwater cruise, or spend a day exploring Thekkady and Periyar National Park. If you have less time, you can skip Munnar and spend extra time exploring Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram.
