Set out for a jungle safari at Nagarhole National Park starting early in the morning. An experienced guide will accompany you for a 3-hour ride through the lush greenery of the park, home to many species of mammals like deer, elephants, tigers, panthers, and bison. The captivating scenery with serene streams and cascading waterfalls makes for an unforgettable experience. Be sure to carry a camera and binoculars to catch the animals in action.
Continue on to the picturesque Irupu Falls, an enchanting waterfall situated in the Brahmagiri range of Karnataka. The falls are located within a forest reserve and have a mystical, serene setting perfect for sightseeing and photography. The 60-metre tall falls are surrounded by lush greenery and the river Lakshmana Tirtha flows in cascades around the area. Expect to spend around two hours here taking in the beauty of this natural wonder.
Spend the night at Kutta, a small town located on the border of the Nagarhole National Park. Kutta has a range of boarding options available, including lodges, campsites, and resorts. Alternatively, you can choose to stay at the park's guest house if it is available. After settling in, you can explore the local market and try some traditional Kodava cuisine at a local restaurant.
Start your day with a trek to the Brahmagiri Peak situated in the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. The trek starts at the forest office, and passes through hills, grasslands, and shola forests before reaching the peak. The Brahmagiri Hills are famous for their distinct flora and fauna, and you may come across the Nilgiri langur, giant Malabar squirrel, or lion-tailed macaque. The trek may take around 4-5 hours, so carry enough water, snacks and trekking gear with you.
Conclude your trip with a serene boat safari on the Kabini River. The 2-hour boat ride offers a unique perspective of the breathtaking backwaters of the Kabini River, where you can spot numerous birds, elephants, crocodiles, and water buffaloes along the downstream. The ride is even more enchanting during the sunset, when the sky is painted with vibrant colours that create a picturesque scene.
If you have more time, you can visit the Thirunelli Temple, which is around 13 km away from the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. If you have less time, you can skip the trek to the peak and instead visit the Nagarhole Wildlife Safari. Additionally, try to plan your trip from October to May when the park stays open, and avoid visiting during the monsoon season.
