Continue on to Santana, a picturesque village known for its traditional thatched-roof houses called "A-frames."
Take a ferry to Porto Santo Island, known for its long golden beaches and warm waters. Spend the day relaxing on the beach, swimming, and trying out water sports like paddleboarding and kayaking. Visit the Cristo Rei viewpoint and enjoy stunning panoramic views of the island and surrounding ocean.
Start the day at Cabo Girao, the second-highest sea cliff in the world, and take in the breathtaking views from the skywalk. Then head to Calheta Beach, a family-friendly beach with soft golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Relax on the beach, take a dip in the ocean, and try some delicious seafood at one of the nearby restaurants.
If you have more time, consider visiting Ponta do Sol or exploring the levadas near Rabaçal. If you have less time, skip Porto Santo Island and spend another day exploring Funchal or Ribeiro Frio. Remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable walking shoes, especially when exploring levadas or hiking in Pico do Arieiro.
