Driving is recommended to access many of the attractions in Maui. Renting a car is the most convenient option, and it typically costs around $50 per day. Gas prices fluctuate but are generally around $3 per gallon. Ride-sharing services and taxis are also available but may be more costly. Be mindful of traffic during peak hours, especially when driving the Road to Hana.
If you have extra time, consider hiking the Waihee Ridge Trail or visiting the Maui Ocean Center. If you have less time, skip the Road to Hana and spend an extra day in Lahaina or Wailea. Alternatively, if you're interested in adventurous activities, consider taking a surfing lesson or embark on a helicopter tour. Don't forget to bring comfortable walking shoes and sun protection!
Kahului Airport (OGG) is the primary airport on Maui, located in the city of Kahului just 20 minutes from the island's economic center. The smaller Kapalua Airport (JHM) services some inter-island flights and is located in West Maui, about 45 minutes from Kahului.
