Start the day with a visit to the Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to many endangered species and about 184 species of birds. The extension of the sanctuary into the Kolur and Karakambadi reserve forests has made it even more diverse and beautiful. You can take a jeep safari or an elephant ride inside the sanctuary to get a better view of the animals in their natural habitat.
After spending some time amidst nature, head towards the Pushpagiri Temples. This ancient temple complex is situated amidst lush green hills and boasts of incredible panoramic views of the surrounding area. The architecture of the temples is awe-inspiring and the intricate carvings on the walls and pillars are definitely worth admiring. The temple complex is also famous for its various cultural and religious events.
After a scrumptious breakfast, start off early towards the Gandikota Fort and Canyon. A hidden gem in the heart of Andhra Pradesh, the canyon is often referred to as the 'Grand Canyon of India'. The fort, on the other hand, is an ancient fortress built by the Reddy dynasty in the 14th century. The view of the Penna river flowing through the gorge is absolutely captivating and a photographer's delight.
Finally, end the trip with a visit to the Belum Caves, the second-longest caves in India. The cave system is estimated to be around 3,000 million years old and is a natural marvel. The various stalactites and stalagmites inside the caves make for a breathtaking sight. There are also various routes inside the caves depending on the level of difficulty you are up for, and experienced guides are available who can take you through the caves.
If you have more time, you can also add the following places to your itinerary: Ahobilam Temples (a group of 9 temples located in a picturesque hill station), Talakona Waterfalls (the highest waterfall in Andhra Pradesh), and the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirupati (one of the most famous and visited temples in South India). However, if you have less time, you can consider skipping the Pushpagiri Temples or the Belum Caves to make the trip more relaxed.
