Sabarmati Ashram, also known as Gandhi Ashram, was the residence of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi from 1917 to 1930. It was from here that Gandhi led the Dandi Salt March. The place provides deep insight into the life of Mahatma Gandhi, his personal belongings, and his principles of non-violence and truth. The ashram has galleries such as Hriday Kunj, Upasana Mandir, Nandini, Vinoba-Mira Kutir and a library.
Kankaria Lake is the second-largest lake in Ahmadabad. The lake was built by Sultan Qutbuddin in the 15th century. The lakefront has several attractions such as Nagina Wadi, Kids City, a zoo, toy train, balloon ride, water rides, and laser shows in the evening. The lake offers stunning views of the sunset, and you can also enjoy boating and birdwatching here.
Gir is the only natural habitat of the most endangered Asiatic lions and is one of the largest dry deciduous forests in western India. Apart from the lion, the forest is home to several other animals like the leopard, Sambar Deer, and over 300 species of birds. A wildlife safari in the national park is a must-do experience.
The Rann of Kutch is the largest salt desert in the world and is a unique landscape in Gujarat. The place is best visited during the Rann Utsav, which happens every year between November and February. You can watch a beautiful sunset, go on desert safaris, and indulge in cultural activities like folk dances and music performances. You can also shop for handicrafts and souvenirs.
If you have more time, you can visit the Adalaj Stepwell, Akshardham Temple, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, and the Bhuj city. But if you have less time, it's better to skip Gir National Forest and visit the Sardar Patel Statue of Unity, which is the world's tallest statue and is located around a 2-hour drive from Ahmedabad. Don't forget to try some of the local dishes, such as Dhokla, Khandvi and Thepla.
