Begin the trip by experiencing the best of Idukki’s biodiversity at the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary. Spread over an area of 77 square kilometers, the wildlife sanctuary houses a variety of flora and fauna. Visitors can explore the sanctuary via jeep safaris. The highlight of the visit is the sight of the rare mountain goat known as the Nilgiri Tahr. The wildlife sanctuary also has a dam, which provides a beautiful view of the evergreen forest.
Visit the highest tea estate in India- Kolukkumalai Tea Estate which is situated at an altitude of 8000 feet. The tea estate provides a panoramic view of the dense vegetation and hills that surround it. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the tea factory, which produces some of the best tea in the world. Sipping on tea while enjoying the scenic view is a highlight of the visit.
End the trip by witnessing the stunning views from the Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India. Visitors can embark on a trek to the peak which takes roughly 4 hours and requires permission. The trek is worth it with the panoramic view of the park’s rich flora and fauna, providing an unforgettable experience. It is important to note that the trek is only permitted between November and May.
If you have extra time, visit the Munnar Tea Museum or the Mattupetty Dam. If you have less time, opt for the Idukki Dam during day one or Tea Museum on day two. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring warm clothes, especially for the Anamudi Peak trek. It is also recommended to carry sufficient food and water.
