The largest earth dam in India, Banasura Sagar Dam is a picturesque place with lush green surroundings, crystal-clear water and great opportunities for boating. Visitors can enjoy a speed boat ride or pedal boat ride on the waters, or hike up to the viewpoint for an incredible panoramic view of the surrounding hills.
Located at an altitude of 1200 mtrs above sea level, Edakkal Caves are famed for their prehistoric carvings on the walls of the cave, dating back 6,000 BC. A short hike up the Ambukutty Mala hill will take you to these fascinating caves, where you can gaze in wonder at the carvings and also enjoy stunning views of the valley below.
Kuruva Island, an uninhabited island which is a part of the Kuruva Dweep, is a lush green, serene and exotic destination for nature lovers. The island is situated amidst the Kabini river and is a protected river delta, which houses several rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc. A bamboo raft ride along the river makes a visit to this island truly unforgettable.
If you have more time, you can visit the Thusharagiri Waterfalls on Day 1, Pookode Lake on Day 2, and Soochipara Falls on Day 3. These places are also great for nature lovers and offer an immersive experience in the scenic beauty of Wayanad. For those with less time, it is recommended to skip Kuruva Island and head straight to the Edakkal Caves on Day 2 to accommodate Banasura Sagar as a half-day trip, and Day 1's schedule should be modified with lesser commutes.
