Escape the city and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature at the Zinga Botanical Garden. Home to over 1,000 species of plants, trees, and flowers, this garden offers a peaceful retreat with serene views. You can take a leisurely stroll along the winding paths and admire the lush greenery or sit by the lake and enjoy a picnic. Make sure to also check out the greenhouse that hosts rare and exotic plants.
For a more adventurous nature experience, head to the Selam Wildlife Sanctuary. Spanning over 500 square miles, this sanctuary is home to an array of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, and lions. You can take a jeep safari tour or a guided walk through the sanctuary to spot some of these animals in their natural habitat. Don't miss the scenic views of the Nyambene Hills and the Tana River.
If you have more time, you should consider adding a visit to the Meru National Park, which is home to some of the rarest wildlife species in the world, including the black rhinoceroses and reticulated giraffe. Alternatively, for a more laid-back experience, consider a visit to the Timau River Lodge, where you can go fishing or take a dip in the river. If time is limited, you can skip the Zinga Botanical Garden and spend more time at the Selam Wildlife Sanctuary. It is also important to note that the sanctuary is closed on Mondays.
