Kumbakonam Temples and Tirunallar Family-Friendly 2-Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Kumbakonam Temples
    09:00 am: Depart from your hotel in Kumbakonam

    Kumbakonam is known as the temple town of South India for its magnificent temples. Start your day by visiting the Sarangapani Temple. It is a beautiful and ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Next, visit the Chakrapani Temple, located near the Sarangapani Temple. It is one of the oldest temples in Kumbakonam, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Afterwards, head to the Kashi Viswanathar Temple located close by, it is another famous temple in Kumbakonam.

    12:00 pm: Lunch can be had at The Garden restaurant. Take a break and enjoy their traditional South Indian cuisine.

    After lunch, visit the Kumbeswarar Temple and admire its beautiful Dravidian architecture. Next, head to the Nageswaran Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Finish the day by visiting the Brihadeeswara Temple, located about fifteen minutes away by car, it is one of the largest and oldest temples in Kumbakonam.

  2. Day 2: Tirunallar

    After breakfast, head to Tirunallar, located approximately 25 km away from Kumbakonam, and visit the famous Thirunallar Temple dedicated to Shani, the ruler of planet Saturn. The temple has great historical importance, and it is believed that the devotees who visit here will be relieved from the ill effects of Lord Shani.

    12:00 pm: Lunch can be had at the hotel Royal Garden. They serve a variety of vegetarian dishes.

    After lunch, visit the Swami Malai Temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan. This temple is located atop a hill and has stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The temple is accessible via a flight of stairs. Next, visit the Vaitheeswaran Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva had been worshipped here by Lord Aadi Shankaracharya. Finally, end the day with a visit to the Thirukadaiyur Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is considered to be one of the most famous temples in Tamil Nadu.

If you have more time, you can visit the other famous temples in Kumbakonam like the Airavatesvara Temple and the Kudanthai Arulmigu Nageshwara Swamy Temple. You can also visit the Kumbakonam Government Museum to gain more knowledge about the history and culture of Tamil Nadu. If you have less time, we suggest removing the Thirukadaiyur Temple from the itinerary.
