To get around the island, rental cars, bikes, and scooters are available. Taxis are also available but can be expensive. Alternatively, water taxis and boat tours offer a fun way to explore the island's lagoon. Transportation costs vary depending on the mode of transportation chosen.
If you have more time, consider taking a trip to one of the lesser-known islands nearby, such as Huahine or Raiatea. If you have less time, consider skipping Vaitape and spending more time at the beach. Don't forget to bring plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent, as mosquito bites can be common.
Bora Bora Airport (BOB) is located on an islet off the main island and is only accessible by boat. The airport is just 4 miles (6.4 km) from Vaitape and there are regular water taxis and shuttles available for transportation between the airport and the main island.
