Begin your trip by exploring the renowned Valparai Tea Estate. There are several tea estates in Valparai, and the Valparai Tea Estate is the most visited one. Guided tours are available where visitors can learn about the history of the estate and tea-making process while taking in stunning scenic views of the surrounding hills and forest. Don’t forget to take home some fresh tea leaves or tea-powder from their in-house store.
The Aliyar Dam is an ideal place for a day trip, offering breathtaking views of the Aliyar Reservoir and the Western Ghats. The park has a play area for kids, and visitors can take a boat ride or enjoy a picnic at the scenic site. From the park, visitors can take a jeep ride to the nearby Monkey Falls, which is closed during monsoon season.
Spend your last day exploring the Myladi and Aliyar ranges of the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to several rare and endangered species such as Bengal tiger, lion-tailed macaque, and Nilgiri langur. The sanctuary offers guided trekking experiences, boat rides(Timings: 07:00 AM to 3:00 PM), bamboo rafting and offers treehouse stays (must be booked in advance). A visit to the Kannimara Teak – the world’s largest teak tree is a must.
If you have more time, you can visit the Sholayar Dam or indulge in tribal village tours near Parambikulam. Alternatively, you can spend an extra day at the tea estate or go for a ride on a Bullet with the Valparai bike rental services. If time is short, you can skip the Aliyar Dam and visit the Solaiyar Dam, which is closer to Valparai. Also, make sure to carry water bottles, snacks, and comfortable footwear as some places require trekking. It’s best to carry some cash as not all places accept digital payments.
