Transportation

For rental cars, consider booking in advance, as they can be scarce during peak seasons. If you don't want to drive, you can take guided tours; it's helpful with local tips and history. Approximate drive times: Kahului airport to Hana (2 hours), Kahului to Haleakala (1 hour), Kahului to Kihei (20 mins)

Useful tips

If you have more time, add a day trip to Molokai or Lanai. For less crowded beaches, try Baldwin Beach Park, Honolua Bay, or Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach. Exchange flip-flops for water shoes for rocky hikes and consider bringing snorkeling gear, rain jackets, and bug spray.

Airports

The main airport near Maui is Kahului Airport (OGG), which is located about 6 miles from the city center of Kahului. It’s the second busiest airport in Hawaii and has several domestic and international flights. Plan on a 30-minute drive without traffic to the main tourist areas of Kihei and Wailea.
