Panaji, also known as Panjim, is the capital city of Goa and a brilliant amalgamation of Indian and Portuguese culture. A stroll through the Fontainhas neighborhood, with its narrow streets and old houses with beautiful balconies, is an absolute must. The Immaculate Conception Church, with its striking white color, is another iconic spot that should be on your list. Take a walk along the Mandovi River, or watch the sunset from one of its many restaurants while enjoying a traditional Goan meal.
Once the capital of the Portuguese Indies, Old Goa is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and a treasure trove of stunning 16th and 17th century churches and monasteries. The most famous being the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier. The Se Cathedral, the largest church in Asia, is also worth a visit. Take a walk through the picturesque streets, visit the archaeological museum, and end your tour with a relaxing visit to the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary.
If you have more time, consider visiting one of the beaches in North Goa like Baga or Calangute. Alternatively, a spice plantation tour is an excellent way to experience the unique cuisine and culture of Goa. If you have less time, consider skipping the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Also, keep in mind that most churches and monuments in Goa have a strict dress code, so dress appropriately.
