Start the day early and go on a scenic trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek is moderately challenging and takes around 3-4 hours, but the stunning panoramic views from the top are worth every effort. Don't forget to carry water, snacks and a first aid kit. After the trek, head to the Meenmutty Waterfalls for a refreshing dip in the cool water.
Experience Wayanad's wildlife up close with a jungle safari at Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. Hop on a jeep and explore the sanctuary, home to a variety of animals and birds such as elephants, tigers, deer, peacocks and more. The safari lasts around 2-3 hours, and a forest department guide accompanies you throughout the journey. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient cave paintings.
Experience the thrill of bamboo rafting as you glide along the calm waters of the Kabani River at Kuruva Island. The island is a pristine green paradise of dense forests and islets, perfect for birdwatching, nature walks and photography. Bamboo rafting lasts around 2 hours, and a guide accompanies you throughout the journey. After rafts, you can visit the Thirunelli Temple, a 3000-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu amidst the picturesque Brahmagiri Hills.
If you have more time, you can also visit the Soochipara Falls or Banasura Sagar Dam. If you have less time, skip the Thirunelli Temple or Edakkal Caves. Make sure to wear suitable trekking gear and comfortable shoes. Carry enough cash as most places don't accept cards. Beware of leeches during the monsoon season and carry salt with you to remove them.
