The Mysore Palace is a beautiful work of art built through four generations of Wadiyar Kings. Embellished with intricate carvings, paintings, and architecture, it exemplifies the rich cultural heritage of Mysuru. You can take a guided tour of the palace, or explore the Palace grounds, Orchid garden and courtyards on your own. The palace is lit up on Sundays and public holidays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Make sure to visit the palace gift shop to get some traditional souvenirs for your loved ones.
The Brindavan Gardens is a beautiful park surrounding the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam. The fountains in the park are beautifully illuminated with colorful lights in the evening. Enjoy a romantic boat ride on the serene waters of the dam, or take a long stroll in the park. The Garden is open for visitors from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. You can also visit the KRS dam which provides water to the entire Mysuru city, which is just a few kilometers away from the Gardens.
If you have more time, explore the Chamundi Hill which offers breathtaking views of the city and houses the Chamundeshwari Temple. The Nandi Statue on the hill is 350 years old and was carved out of a single rock. The hill is approximately 13 km from the city center.
For food, try out Mysuru's traditional delicacies like Masala Dosa, Bisibele Baath, and Mysuru Pak. Head to the famous food street in Mysuru, Devaraja Urs Road or visit any local restaurants for authentic cuisine.
On any circumstance, avoid traveling from April to June in Mysuru because the temperature can go up to 45 degrees Celsius. The best time to visit the city is during winters from November to February which is the ideal time to explore the city.
