Begin your adventure in Jaisalmer at the Jaisalmer Fort, also known as the "Golden Fort." This historical landmark was built in the 12th century and is made with golden sandstone brick, hence the name. Visitors can expect to see the Jain Temples and the Raj Mahal Palace. Try out the fresh juices and snacks at the many mom-and-pop shops nearby.
Next stop, the Sri Darbar Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. This spectacular gurudwara attracts visitors from all over the world and is renowned for its grand architecture. Visitors can offer prayers, take a guided tour, relax by the pool or have a meal at a langar (free dining hall).
After breakfast, take a tour of the Wagah Border, a military checkpoint and ceremony on the India-Pakistan border. The ceremony takes place every evening and is a crowd favorite, great for community building. Make sure to arrive early to get the best views.
Your last stop is the Junagarh Fort. This old fort was built in the early 20th century and has some of the best designs you will see in India. This fort remains untouched by time and is a piece of history worth exploring. Do not skip the small museum showing off the weaponry and armor that were used back in the day.
If you have an extra day or two, I'd suggest you check out the Jaisalmer Dunes and enjoy a camel ride. In Amritsar, try visiting the Partition Museum for an understanding of India's history. Another good option especially if you have historical inclination is to visit the sand dunes in Tanot, a five-hour drive from Jaisalmer. Ditch Sri Darbar Sahib and try exploring the narrow lanes and bazaars in Amritsar.
