Begin your trip by visiting the ancient Edakkal Caves. These caves are known for their ancient carvings and paintings. The trek to the caves offers beautiful scenic views of the Wayanad region. It is a bit of a climb, so carry sufficient water and comfortable shoes. After exploring the caves, end your day by relaxing at the nearby Soojipara Falls.
Start your day by visiting Banasura Sagar Dam, India's largest earthen dam. Take a walk along the dam and enjoy a boat ride in the lake. After some recreation time, head to Deer Park to spot local fauna like deer, peacocks, and rabbits. End your day with serene sunset views at Pookode Lake.
Start your day early and trek up Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. It takes about 3 hours to reach the top. The panoramic view of Wayanad from the peak is breathtaking and definitely worth the effort. After returning to the base, rejuvenate at Meenmutty Waterfalls. It is a bit of a drive through an unpaved road, but the beautiful falls make it worth it.
On your final day, embark on a wildlife safari at Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary boasts of the largest population of elephants in Kerala. Apart from elephants, you may also spot other animals like deer, wild boars, and leopards. After the safari, visit the Chain Tree and learn about the local folklore. End your trip by taking a stroll in the Phantom Rock known for its unique rock formation resembling a human skull.
If you have additional time, consider visiting Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Begur Wildlife Sanctuary. To slow down the pace, you can opt-out of the Chembra peak trek and spend more time at Banasura Sagar Dam or Pookode lake. Keep in mind, some locations are closed on public holidays and during monsoon season. Wear comfortable clothing and carry sufficient water on treks.
