Shiradi Temple is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Matsya (fish) avatar. It is believed to be built in the 8th century AD and is an excellent example of the Kerala style of architecture. As per the temple legend, Lord Vishnu himself installed the idol here. The exquisite stone carvings, intricate woodwork and murals depicting scenes from Hindu mythology make this temple a must-visit. After darshan at the temple, visitors can explore the nearby beach or indulge in some shopping for traditional Kerala sarees and handicrafts at the nearby market.
Kappil Beach is one of the most stunning beaches near Shiradi Temple. The tranquil atmosphere, clear blue waters and pristine sands make it an ideal spot for unwinding and rejuvenating. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and is a perfect spot to enjoy a picnic with family or friends. Visitors can rent beach chairs and umbrellas for a fee. The view of the sunset from the beach is simply breathtaking.
If you have extra time, you can visit Bekal fort, one of the largest and well-preserved forts in Kerala, located just 7 km from Kappil Beach. For foodies out there, we recommend tasting the local delicacies such as Malabar Biryani, Fish curry and Kappa (mashed tapioca). If you have less time, you can skip Kappil Beach and visit the nearby Ananthapura Lake Temple, an ancient temple located on a small island in the middle of a lake.
