Getting around the Azores will require renting a car and taking ferries between the islands. Gas is relatively inexpensive, but car rental costs vary depending on the vehicle type and rental period. Ferries run on specific schedules and must be booked in advance - costs vary depending on the island and the distance between the islands. Travel time to different islands can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, and car rides from location to location range from 15 minutes to two hours.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to the impressive Nordeste region, or the beautiful Algarvia Waterfall. If you have less time, consider cutting your visit to Faial or Graciosa Island short, and spend more time on Sao Miguel Island.
