Start your trip at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community founded in 1926. Explore the tranquil grounds and gardens, and attend a meditation or yoga session if interested. Take a moment to pay respects at the Samadhi, the final resting place of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. The Ashram also houses a library and a small boutique selling books and handcrafted items.
Learn about the history and culture of Pondicherry at the Pondicherry Museum, which contains an impressive array of artefacts including bronze sculptures, coins, pottery, and weaponry. The museum is housed in a beautiful colonial-era mansion and features both permanent and rotating exhibits.
Take a relaxing stroll along the Promenade Beach, a long boulevard running along the Bay of Bengal. Try some snacks from the street vendors or enjoy a cool drink while watching the waves. The beach also features some interesting sculptures and monuments, including the famous statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
Enjoy some greenery at Bharathi Park, a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. The park features a large pond, a musical fountain, and several benches for relaxation. Take a stroll through the trees and admire the colourful flowers and shrubs.
Dedicate your second day to the Auroville, an experimental township founded in 1968 with a focus on sustainable living and spiritual development. Visit the impressive Matrimandir, a golden globe-shaped meditation hall, and learn about the different communities and initiatives within Auroville. You can also try some eco-friendly shopping or eat at one of the many restaurants serving organic food.
End your trip with a visit to the Paradise Beach, a secluded and picturesque spot accessible only by boat. Take a dip in the clear waters or sunbathe on the soft sand. The beach also has some small cafes and shops selling beachwear and souvenirs.
If you have more time, consider visiting the nearby Gingee Fort or the Matrimandir Gardens in Auroville. For a shorter trip, you can skip Auroville and visit the beaches and colonial architecture of Tamil Nadu. Keep in mind that most places in Pondicherry close by 5 PM, so plan accordingly.
