The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingams in India and a must-visit destination for Hindus. Believed to be the only Jyotirlinga that faces south, the temple features a tall spire, a silver idol of Shiva, and a unique lingam that can only be seen once in a year. The temple has several shrines, including one dedicated to Parvati, and is surrounded by other temples and shops selling puja items and souvenirs. The temple is usually crowded throughout the day and is a great place to experience the local culture and traditions.
The Kaliadeh Palace is situated on the banks of the Shipra River and is famous for its beautiful architecture and stunning views of the river. Built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, the palace has several structures, including a tower, a mosque, and a bridge that connects the palace to the mainland. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk along the riverfront, watch the sunset, or take a boat ride.
If you have more time, you can include other temples in Ujjain like Sandipani Ashram, Harsiddhi Temple, and Chintaman Ganesh Temple. You can also consider taking a day trip to Omkareshwar, another Jyotirlinga about 80 km from Ujjain. If you have less time, you can skip the Kaliadeh Palace or visit it during the sunset to save time. Carry water and wear comfortable shoes as you might need to walk for long distances.
