The Kallanai Dam, also known as the Grand Anicut, is one of the world's oldest irrigation dams. Built on the Kaveri River by the Chola King Karikalan in the 2nd century AD, it is still in use today. The dam offers stunning views of the river and surrounding countryside. Visitors can take a boat ride along the river or visit the nearby Ganesha Temple.
The Mukurthi National Park is a beautiful and remote nature reserve in the Nilgiri Hills. The park is home to a variety of endangered animals, including the Nilgiri tahr, bison, and elephant. Visitors can trek through the park to see the stunning landscapes and wildlife. There are also several scenic waterfalls in the park, including the Pykara Falls and the Katary Falls.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to the Ooty Botanical Gardens or the Doddabetta Peak. If you have less time, skip the boat ride at Kallanai Dam and focus on exploring the dam and temple. Be sure to bring comfortable hiking shoes and plenty of water for your trek at Mukurthi National Park.
