Exploring the Scenic Wonders of Hampi

  1. Day 1: Virupaksha Temple and Matanga Hill Trek
    10 minutes (2 km) from Hospet Railway Station

    Begin your journey with a visit to the Virupaksha Temple - an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its intricate carvings, stunning architecture and a 50-meter-high gopuram. Take a stroll through the temple complex and admire the sculptures that narrate the stories of Hindu mythology. After that, make your way to Matanga Hill. A 30-minute uphill trek will take you to the summit which offers panoramic views of Hampi. It's a great place to watch the sunrise or sunset and take in the serene ambiance.

  2. Day 2: Hampi Bazaar and Lotus Mahal
    15 minutes (3 km) from Matanga Hill

    Start the day by visiting the Hampi Bazaar. The Bazaar was a central marketplace during the Vijayanagara Empire. The street is lined with shops selling trinkets, handicrafts and souvenirs. After your shopping escapade, visit the Lotus Mahal in the Zenana Enclosure. This structure was built in Indo-Islamic style and served as a recreational retreat for the Royal Ladies. Useful Tips

If you have some extra time, you can visit the Vittala Temple - a 16th century temple with stone chariots and musical pillars. You can also take a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra River.
