Start your trip with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, a natural wonder located at the top of Ambukutty Mala. The caves are famous for their ancient rock art paintings that date back to 6000 BC. To reach the caves, you'll have to trek a short distance up the hill, but the stunning views on the way make it worth the effort. Depending on your interest, the caves can take from one to two hours to explore. Don't forget to carry sunscreen, hats and plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
After the caves, head to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad at 2100 meters above sea level. The trek up to the peak takes around 3-4 hours. On the way, you will find heart-shaped lake, which is a great spot for photography. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. We suggest starting this trek early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds. Don't forget to carry adequate snacks, water, a cap or hat, and a walking stick.
Spend your second day enjoying the natural beauty of Wayanad at Banasura Hill Resort, nestled amidst the Banasura Hills. The resort offers several activities, including rope bridge, rock climbing, zip lining, etc. You can also opt to take a leisurely walk around their gardens and relax with a cup of tea or coffee. The resort is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day. Don't forget to carry comfortable shoes, a water bottle, and a camera to capture the memories.
End your day at Pookode Lake, a serene freshwater lake surrounded by lush green forests. The lake offers boating facilities, but it's equally beautiful to take a walk along the paved pathway encircling the lake. There are several shops around selling local handicrafts and spices, which make for great souvenirs to take back home. The lake is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day. Don't forget to carry mosquito repellent, hats, and comfortable walking shoes.
If you have more time, you can explore other places like Meenmutty Falls, Thusharagiri Falls, and Soochipara Falls, which are all located around Wayanad. If you have less time, consider skipping Banasura Hill Resort or Pookode Lake.
