The Promenade Beach, also known as the Pondicherry Beach, is one of the most popular beaches in Pondicherry. The picturesque view of waves crashing against the rocks, the morning joggers, and the evening walkers make it an ideal hangout spot. You can also indulge in adventure water sports such as surfing and kayaking. A 3-kilometer-long stretch of walkway along the beach is perfect for strolling and enjoying the beautiful sunset.
The Old Lighthouse is a beautiful heritage monument located at the southern end of the Promenade Beach. It provides an excellent panoramic view of the Bay of Bengal and the surrounding area. The lighthouse was built in the 19th century and is still operational. After climbing up 230 steps, you can enjoy the scenic view and take memorable pictures with your buddies. Please note that Lighthouse is not open to foreigners, and prior permission is necessary to visit.
If you have more time in Pondicherry, you can visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Chunnambar Boat House, and Paradise Beach. If you have less time, you can skip the Old Lighthouse and instead check out the Pondicherry Museum or the Botanical Garden.
