Start your day at the Callaway Resort & Gardens, a 2,500-acre nature preserve with beautiful gardens, hiking trails, and a butterfly center. Visit the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, home to more than 1,000 butterflies from around the world. Take a stroll through the Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl, which has over 3,000 hybrid azaleas in bloom each spring. Afterwards, head to the Discovery Center to learn about the local wildlife and ecology of the area. Wrap up the day with a scenic bike ride or a round of mini-golf with the family.
Drive to F.D. Roosevelt State Park, the largest state park in Georgia. Take a morning hike on one of the park's many trails and enjoy stunning views of the Pine Mountain range. After lunch, explore the park's many recreational activities, including fishing at the lake, swimming, and paddle boating. Rent a canoe or kayak and explore the peaceful creek that winds through the park. End the day with a picnic dinner in one of the park's many beautiful picnic areas.
If you have extra time, consider touring the Little White House, the historic cottage where President F.D. Roosevelt spent much of his time. You can also take a horseback riding tour of the Pine Mountain range or visit the Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari. If you have less time, skip the mini-golf and focus on exploring the gardens at Callaway Resort & Gardens or taking a longer hike at F.D. Roosevelt State Park.
