Start the day early with a trek up the Chembra Peak. It is the highest peak in Wayanad with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the heart-shaped lake at the top. The trek is of moderate difficulty, and it takes about three hours to reach the top. Make sure to carry enough water and pack some snacks for the journey as there are no shops on the way.
Visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. The dam is surrounded by the Banasura hills, offering a serene and picturesque view with excellent opportunities for photography. Enjoy a speedboat ride or a pedal boat trip in the nearby lake, surrounded by the lush-green hills and blue sky.
Head to the Edakkal Caves which date back to the Neolithic Age and contain some of the earliest signs of human civilizations. They are famous for their petroglyphs and rock carvings that have been there for over 8000 years. One needs to trek for about an hour to reach the site, which is situated on a hill and offers scenic views of the Wayannad forests and the Banasura Sagar Dam.
If you have more time, you can visit the nearby Pookode Lake, Thirunelli Temple or the Meenmutty Falls. For those with less time, it's recommended to skip the Banasura Sagar Dam and spend more time at the Edakkal Caves or the Chembra Peak. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water, snacks, and sunscreen. It gets hot during the day, so it's recommended to start your day early to avoid the heat and the crowds.
