The Ooty Botanical Gardens are spread over 55 acres and was established in 1848. It is a rich collection of several exotic flora and fauna, located amidst the serene environment of the Nilgiri Hills. The garden hosts several different types of plants including exotic species from the Himalayas, Europe, and America. You can also find a wide range of roses, orchids, and carnivorous plants. The gardens also have several greenhouses, including a Flower Show in May every year, which shouldn't be missed.
If you have more time, you can plan a visit to the Anamudi Peak or Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Munnar, which is en route to Varkala from Coimbatore. For those who have less time, visit the Varkala Lighthouse and witness the panoramic view of Varkala Beach or skip the Pine Forest and head straight to Ooty's famous viewpoint, Doddabetta Peak.
