Begin your day with a visit to the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the most significant pilgrimage sites for Hindus. Built in the 17th century, this temple features stunning Dravidian architecture and intricate carvings on its walls. It is said that a visit here washes away your sins.
After spending a few hours at the temple, take a dip in the holy waters of Agnitheertham. According to legend, Lord Rama himself bathed in these waters after killing Ravana. The beach here is also a perfect spot for a picnic.
Head to Sri Saravana Bhavan for a delicious South Indian meal for lunch. This popular chain is known for its vegetarian dishes, particularly the dosas and idlis. Don't forget to try their filter coffee.
After lunch, make your way to Dhanushkodi Beach, one of the most picturesque beaches in the region. This serene spot was devastated by a cyclone in 1964, but has since been restored to its former glory. Take a walk along the shore, or simply relax and enjoy the views.
End your day with a visit to the iconic Pamban Bridge, which connects Rameshwaram to the mainland. This engineering marvel was built in 1914 and is considered an important landmark of India. The bridge offers breathtaking views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape.
If you have more time, you can explore some of the other beaches in the area or visit the local markets for souvenirs. If you have less time, skip visiting Dhanushkodi beach and spend more time at the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple instead.
