Start your trip with a hike up to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanadu. The trek will take approximately 3 hours and will lead you to a heart-shaped lake. The panoramic views of the valley from the peak are breathtaking. The spot is ideal for a picturesque picnic lunch. It's a must-visit place for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
Head towards the Kuruvadweep island, an oasis of tranquillity. Situated amidst the lush green forest with streams & waterfalls, surrounded by rare birds, orchids and herbs, it offers a serene escape to its visitors. Have a relaxing boat ride around the island. You can also choose to explore the place on foot with a guide. Don't forget to carry insect repellent and drinking water.
End your trip with a visit to a spectacular freshwater lake, Pookode Lake - known as the 'Lake of Flowers'. Relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake surrounded by evergreen forests and watch the fish swim through crystal clear water. Take a leisurely paddleboat ride across the lake and explore its different corners. There's a freshwater aquarium and a children's park as well. A perfect location for a family picnic and a peaceful end to the trip.
If you have more time, consider a visit to Soochipara Falls or Banasura Dam. Alternatively, a drive through the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary can be a thrilling experience. With more time, you can also explore local markets and savour street food in town. In case of less time, drop Pookode Lake from the itinerary. Since some of the places can be crowded, it's advisable to start early in the day. Carry enough drinking water & mosquito repellent when outdoor.
