Begin your journey with Shimla, once the summer capital of India during the British Raj. Take a stroll along the famous pedestrian-only street, The Mall, and enjoy the charming British-era architecture. Visit the Jakhu Temple nestled in the Himalayas, which offers panoramic views of Shimla city. Take a ride on the iconic Kalka-Shimla UNESCO Heritage Toy Train, and get a glimpse of Himalayan beauty as the train winds through the mountain.
Head to Manali, nestled in the Kullu Valley. Stop by Kullu on the way, and explore this picturesque valley, also known as the "Valley of the Gods." Cross the Atal Tunnel, the longest tunnel in the world at an altitude more than 3,000 meters. In Manali, visit the scenic Solang Valley, indulge in adventure activities like paragliding, and enjoy the views of the Himalayas. End your day by walking over to the Old Manali and visiting the Manu Temple.
Visit Rohtang Pass, known for its scenic beauty and as a gateway to Lahaul and Spiti Valley. The journey to Rohtang Pass takes you through stunning landscapes, including picturesque waterfalls and glistening streams. Rohtang Pass connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys, and it remains open only from June to October. Take a stroll on the snow-clad mountains, savor the local cuisine, and capture the breathtaking views with your camera.
Experience the peaceful ambiance of Dharamshala, home to the Dalai Lama and the highest cricket stadium in the world. Explore the Tibetan culture by visiting Norbulingka Institute and learn about the art and heritage of Tibet. Visit the Tibetan Museum to learn about the struggle and hardship of Tibetans, and explore the Kangra Valley by visiting the Kangra Fort dating back to 4th century BC.
Dalhousie, a serene hill station situated on five hills, was established by the British Empire during India's colonial era. Visit the serene yet beautiful Khajjiar Lake, also known as the "Switzerland of India." Get a glimpse of the breathtaking views of the Pir Panjal Range from Dainkund Peak and explore the old-world colonial charm by strolling through the quaint street of Subhash Baoli.
Before heading to the airport, take a quick tour of Chandigarh, India's first planned city. Visit the famous rock garden created by Nek Chand, which is constructed entirely of industrial and urban waste. Witness the 50 feet tall open-hand monument, which is the symbol of the city. Plan some more time and visit the capitol complex where you get to see the legislative assembly and high court.
As the itinerary includes long-distance travel, it is recommended to hire a private cab for the entire journey, which costs around ₹9800-₹14000 for six days. Additionally, ticket fares for Kalka-Shimla Toy Train costs ₹550 per person. Please consider the travel time to Rohtang Pass, which can be longer due to traffic as only a limited number of vehicles are allowed each day.
If you have more time to spend, consider adding a trek to Triund or McLeod Ganj in Dharamshala, or spending an extra day in Shimla or Manali. In case of less time, skip visiting Chandigarh or Rohtang Pass as they require additional travel time.
The airport closest to our itinerary would be Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), which is situated approximately 70 km away from Shimla. Another option is Gaggal Airport in Dharamshala (DHM), situated approximately 10 km from Dharamshala town.
