The Muunar Dunes are a 500-hectare expanse of sand dunes with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can hike, bike or even sandboard down the dunes. The best time to visit is in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not too hot. You can also spot desert-adapted wildlife such as the oryx and springbok.
The Swakopmund Jetty is a historic landmark in Swakopmund built in 1912. The jetty has a long history of being used to transport goods and passengers to and from the ships anchored in the harbor. Today, it is used for fishing, sunbathing and taking walks on the ocean. At the end of the jetty, there's a restaurant with great seafood dishes and views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Skeleton Coast National Park is a harshly beautiful and unforgiving landscape of towering sand dunes, rugged canyons, and windswept plains. The park's name comes from the shipwrecks that line the coast, which were caused by treacherous currents, fog, and geologic hazards like rocks and hidden sandbars. Keep your eyes peeled for desert-adapted wildlife like jackals, brown hyenas, and black-backed jackals.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Walvis Bay Lagoon, which is a protected wetland area and home to thousands of migratory birds and pink flamingoes. If you have less time, you can skip the Skeleton Coast National Park and spend more time exploring Swakopmund town and the jetty.
