Climb Kerala's highest peak: Chembra Peak for a challenging but remarkably rewarding experience. The journey will take approximately five hours and will pass through tropical forests, grasslands, and a heart-shaped lake which makes it an ideal picnic spot before the final trek to the peak. At the peak, take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscapes before descending for the day. Don't forget to carry sufficient water and snacks for the trek provided trekking permissions have been obtained.
Unwind after a long trek with a refreshing swim at Soochipara Falls. Nestled amongst the verdant rainforest, the pool at the base of the falls allows you to cool down and take a break from all the hiking before we start another adventure the next day. The falls are surrounded by tea estates and provide an opportunity for some scenic photos.
The Thirunelli Temple is a serene and ancient temple hidden away in the lush Wayanad forests, surrounded by the Brahmagiri hills. This temple is about 3000 years old and is considered as one of the finest temples in Kerala. Some of the temple features include a holy stream, natural ponds, and a walk through the darkened forest where pilgrims can come and take a refreshing dip in the river.
End your trip with a visit to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary which boasts of numerous wildlife species, ranging from elephants to tigers. Book a jungle safari to explore the lush forest surroundings within the sanctuary. You may also opt for a trek with a guide through the sanctuary to learn more about the flora and fauna of the region.
If you have an extra day, you may add a visit to Edakkal Caves which are situated approximately two hours from Kalpetta. Alternatively, if you have to forgo any of these activities, you can opt to skip Soochipara Falls or Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. However, if you'd like to explore more of Wayanad's scenic beauty, you may stop by Kuruva Island on your way to Thirunelli Temple.
