Start your trip with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, located on top of Ambukuthi Hill. An uphill trek to the caves is rewarded with breathtaking views of Wayanad. The caves house ancient inscriptions, iconic figures, and petroglyphs carved by humans during the Neolithic period. The trek to the caves is moderately challenging but suitable for families with kids who love adventure.
Visit the Jain Temple Wayanad that houses beautiful frescoes and life-size statues of Jainism's founder, Lord Mahavira, and other Thirthankaras. The temple is open to devotees of all religions and has Jain-style architecture with a calm ambiance. The temple also has nearby shops selling souvenirs ideal for tourists.
The last day of your visit should include a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, an ideal family-friendly location that provides beautiful scenery, boating facilities and trekking paths. The dam site is the best picnic spot for families and the perfect spot for clicking photos with your loved ones. The location also houses restaurants serving traditional Kerala meals.
If you have more time, add visits to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kuruvadweep Island, and the Meenmutty Falls. If you have less time, drop the visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam. Please note that most tourist destinations in Wayanad close by 5 PM, so plan your visits accordingly.
