During your trip, it is suggested you rent a car to maximize flexibility and fully experience all that Puglia has to offer. Alternatively, you might want to think about employing a private driver to save driving time, make the travels more enjoyable, and minimize the risk of getting lost on the road. The cost of a car rental (medium size) is roughly €260/week. Fuel prices are approximately €6.40/ gallon. Taxis cost around €2/km.
If you have extra time, we recommend taking a cooking class in Lecce or a wine tour in Salento. If you have less time, it is advisable to exclude some destinations or divide the trip into two parts, exploring either the Trulli Valley or the Salento peninsula. Please note that some popular destinations as the "Grotte di Castellana" and "Zoo Safari Fasano" are suspended for 2 days a week, usually Tuesday and Wednesday.
The closest airport to our itinerary is the Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI), located about 50 miles north of Salento. Brindisi Airport is another option, a bit closer to the southern destinations of Puglia, and is located about 22 miles north of Lecce. Both airports have a wide range of airlines and relatively low budget flights, so you can easily fly in and out of Puglia from most European cities.
