Explore the Edakkal Caves which house ancient petroglyphs that date back to the Neolithic era. The hike up the Ambukutty Mala hill can be a bit steep but the stunning view from the top is worth the effort. Witness the enchanting views from way above the valleys and forests. Remember to carry enough water and snacks for the trek.
The second day starts early with a visit to the heart-shaped Chembra Peak, the tallest peak in Wayanad. Trek up to the peak starting from the Chembra Peak trek trail, which takes around 3-4 hours. The astonishing panorama of the surroundings is a worthwhile memory to cherish for a lifetime. Don't forget to carry rain gear and snacks for the hike.
Visit Asia's largest earthen dam, the Banasura Sagar Dam which is built across the Karamanathodu river. Experience the breath-taking views of the Banasura hills from the viewpoint. You can even enjoy boating or go trekking on the nearby hills which would be fun and adventurous. There are food counters available in case you need some refreshment.
If you have more time, you can visit Pookode Lake, Soochipara Waterfalls, and Thirunelli Temple. If you have less time, you can skip Chembra Peak and opt for a visit to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary or the Wayanad Heritage Museum which is located in Ambalavayal. Don't forget to carry appropriate gear, comfortable clothes, sneakers, and umbrellas as it might rain anytime in Wayanad.
