Explore the stunning Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses ancient temples, palaces, and courtyards from the 12th century. Admire the architecture and intricate wood carvings, and take a stroll around the square. Sample some local food at community-run eateries or grab a cup of Nepali tea at a traditional tea shop.
Watch the sunrise over the Himalayas from the Nagarkot View Tower, which offers breathtaking views of the mountains, terraced hills, and Kathmandu Valley. Take a romantic hike along the nearby trails, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of the surrounding forests and villages. Enjoy a candlelit dinner overlooking the valley at one of the many restaurants in Nagarkot.
Escape to the peaceful countryside in the traditional Chitlang Village, located south of Kathmandu Valley. Walk hand in hand through the lush gardens and farms, and visit the ancient temples and stone houses. Take a pottery class or a yoga session with your partner, and taste the freshly made goat cheese from the local farms. Spend a quiet evening under the stars, with a bonfire and some hot tea.
Take a scenic drive to the highest hill surrounding Kathmandu Valley, the Phulchoki Hill. Hike up to the top and marvel at the panoramic views of the city, the hills, and the Himalayas. Enjoy a picnic lunch with your partner, and watch the birds and squirrels in the surrounding forests. Visit the sacred Hindu temple of Phulchoki Mai, and pray for the longevity of your relationship.
If you have more time, you can spend an extra day exploring the temples and monasteries of Kathmandu City, or go rafting on the Trishuli River. If you have less time, you can skip Chitlang Village and head directly to Nagarkot for an overnight stay. Bring comfortable walking shoes, warm clothes for the chilly mornings and evenings, and some cash for the entrance fees and snacks. Avoid travelling during the monsoon season (May-September) as some roads and attractions may be closed due to landslides or flooding.
