Start your day early with a visit to the highest peak in Karnataka- Mullayanagiri, situated at an elevation of 6,330ft above sea level. A trek to the top of Mullayanagiri is an enthralling experience for any adventure enthusiast. The trek to the peak can be covered in 2-3 hours and offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is well marked and safe for trekkers of all ages. At the peak, spend some time enjoying the panoramic views and enjoying a hot cup of coffee from the nearby stalls.
After the trek, head to Baba Budangiri, the second-highest peak in Karnataka, located in the Baba Budan range of the Western Ghats. The peak is known for its beautiful sunset views and the Dattatreya Peetha, a shrine dedicated to the Hindu guru Dattatreya. The peak is also famous for its coffee plantations, and on the way, you can stop at the nearby estates to learn about the coffee-making process and purchase some of the finest Arabica coffee beans.
On the second day, visit the Kudremukh National Park, known for its scenic beauty and diverse wildlife. The park is home to several endangered species like the Malabar giant squirrel, lion-tailed macaque, and the sambar deer. The park offers several trekking trails, including the famous Kudremukh trek, which takes you to the peak of Kudremukh- the third-highest peak in Karnataka. The trek is challenging and takes about 6-7 hours to complete but offers breathtaking views of the Western Ghats.
End your trip with a visit to the serene and picturesque Hirekolale Lake. Located at the heart of Chikmangalur district, the lake is surrounded by lush green hills and offers stunning views of the sunset. The lake is an excellent spot for nature lovers, and one can indulge in numerous activities like boating, fishing, and camping. The lake also has several food stalls and restaurants serving authentic local delicacies.
If you have an additional day, you can add a visit to the Belur and Halebidu temples, known for their stunning architecture. You can also plan a visit to the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to several endangered species like tigers, leopards, and elephants. If you have less time, you can consider skipping Baba Budangiri and spend more time exploring the coffee plantations and the nearby hills.
