The Avalanche Lake is a stunning location for nature lovers. Surrounded by lush greenery and stunning mountains, this lake is a great spot for a picnic or to just sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Boating facilities are available for tourists. The lake is only accessible with permission from the Forest Department, so make sure to secure it before arrival.
Sim's Park is a beautiful landscaped garden in Coonoor consisting of multiple terraces filled with different plants. The park has over a thousand plant species and rare trees. It's a great place to relax and escape the heat while enjoying the fresh air and greenery. Don't miss the annual fruit and vegetable show if your travel dates coincide with it.
If you have more time, head to the Doddabetta Peak for a spectacular panoramic view of the Nilgiri hills. The peak is only 10 km from Ooty Lake and takes around 30 minutes to drive to. If you're interested in tea plantations, visit the Highfield Tea Factory in Coonoor, a 26-minute (11 km) drive from Sim's Park. For those with less time, skip the Avalanche Lake and visit the Ooty Rose Garden instead, which is only 10 minutes from the Ooty Botanical Gardens.
