Begin your trip by exploring the ancient town of Mahabalipuram. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its stunning rock-cut temples and stone carvings. You can also visit the gorgeous Shore Temple, a 7th-century temple that stands on the shore of the Bay of Bengal. Don't forget to check out the Five Rathas, incredible monolithic structures that are each dedicated to a different Hindu god. Finish your day by watching the sunset from the beach.
On your second day, head to the charming town of Pondicherry. This former French colony is known for its beautiful beaches, French architecture, and spiritual atmosphere. Explore the charming French Quarter, stop by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, and stroll along the Promenade Beach. Don't miss the chance to indulge in some French cuisine at one of the town's many cafes and restaurants.
If you have more time, consider visiting Kanchipuram, also known as the "City of a Thousand Temples." This town is famous for its silk sarees and is home to some of the most impressive temples in the region. On the other hand, if you have less time, consider skipping Pondicherry and spending an extra day in Mahabalipuram exploring its many temples and monuments.
