Begin the day on a high note with a trek up Doddabetta Peak, the highest mountain in the Nilgiri mountain range. The trek is rated as moderate to difficult with a distance of around 8 km. Expect to spend about 3 hours on this trek. The breathtaking views of the valley below from the peak are awe-inspiring.
After the trek, stroll through the unique Thread Garden which is a garden that boasts of flowers made entirely of thread. All the plants, flowers, and greenery have been completely recreated with over 2 million embroidery threads. There are around 150 species of flowers and plants on show.
Refuel with a delicious Chinese meal at Shinkows Restaurant which serves some of the best Chinese dishes in town. The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance and great service.
Visit the Toda Huts, which are traditional houses of the Toda tribe, located in the picturesque landscapes of Ooty. These huts are unique as they are made of bamboo and can be completely dismantled and rebuilt in a matter of days. The Toda tribe is one of the native tribes found in the Nilgiri hills and their history dates back 2000 years.
End the day with a visit to the majestic Pykara Waterfalls. The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery and is a popular spot for nature lovers and photographers. The waterfall has a height of 180 feet and is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in South India.
For those wanting to add more sites to see, the Botanical Gardens and Ooty Lake are also popular side attractions in Ooty. For those with less time, the Toda Huts can be removed from the itinerary. Be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent.
