Transportation

Transportation in Albania can be done by car rentals or hiring a private driver. Be sure to take roads less traveled where you get to see small mountain towns, turquoise water streams, and beautiful Albanian nature. Public transportation such as buses is not very comfortable, and some remote locations might have limited access. The total estimated travel time on this itinerary is approximately 8 hours, and prices may vary depending on your transportations choices.

Useful Tips

For those looking to spend more time in Albania, we recommend adding Berat and Gjirokastra to this itinerary, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage-listed towns with rich Ottoman architecture and beautiful views of valleys down below. For those with only one day in Tirana, we recommend visiting the city center and exploring the Skanderbeg Square, Et'hem Bey Mosque, and the National Museum of History.

Airports

The main airport in Albania is the mother Teresa airport (TIA) located in the capital, Tirana, approximately 17km from the city center. Another small airport is in the South of the country, Saranda. However, there are limited flights and can be more expensive than flying into Tirana.
