  • Day 1: Exploring Palermo
    Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes (30 kilometers) from Palermo Airport

    Start your trip by exploring the beautiful city of Palermo. Visit the Massimo Theater which is the largest opera house in Italy, and the beautiful Cathedral of Palermo with its beautiful mosaics.   • Day 2: Visit the Mt. Etna and Taormina
    Approximately 3 hours (240 kilometers) from Palermo

    Take a day trip from Palermo to the Mt. Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. You can explore the beautiful volcanic park and learn about lava formations in Alcantara Gorge. Make your way to Taormina, where you can walk around the historical Corso Umberto I and visit the ancient Theatre of Taormina.

  • Day 3: Discovering Syracuse
    Approximately 2 hours (100 kilometers) from Taormina

    Visit the beautiful town of Syracuse and explore the Archaeological Park of Neapolis which has some of the best Roman ruins in Sicily.   • Day 6: Spending time in Catania

Transportation

Sicily is quite well-connected by train, bus, or by car. The best way to explore Sicily is, of course, by road, where you can stop in places randomly along the way. However, there are many trains and buses available as well for travelers. The estimated one-way cost from Palermo to Catania is €20.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, you can add a visit to the beautiful Palermo Cathedral, and you can also do the food tour, and wine tasting in Marsala city. If you have less time, you can skip the day trip to Taormina, and instead spend more time in Syracuse to visit other amazing locations.

Airports

Sicily destination has two major airports: Palemo Falcone-Borsellino Airport (PMO), located 35 kilometers from Palermo and Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) located 7 kilometers from Catania city center. Both airports have good connections to other European cities and provide a steady flow of tourists to the island.
