Start your day by exploring the charming Old Town, also known as Ano Poli. This ancient part of the city boasts breathtaking views, traditional architecture, and narrow cobblestone streets. Stroll by the Byzantine Walls, enjoy the panoramic view from Eptapyrgio Fortress or simply relax in one of the many picturesque cafes.
Take a walk down Aristotelous street, the most famous pedestrian street in Thessaloniki. Enjoy the lively atmosphere with a coffee or an ouzo, and sample the local cuisine at one of the many restaurants. Visit the impressive St. Demetrios Church, explore the archaeological Museum or the contemporary Art Gallery, and end your day at the iconic White Tower.
Wake up early and take a morning walk along the beautiful Thessaloniki waterfront. Admire the stunning sea views while passing by the famous Birles fountain, the Yacht Marina, the Concert Hall, and the impressive Thessaloniki International Exhibition center. Relax in one of the many seaside cafes, and don't forget to try the delicious seafood at one of the local tavernas.
Thessaloniki is a very walkable city, and most of the main attractions are located within walking distance. Alternatively, you can use public transportation and take the shuttle bus that connects the airport with the city center. A 24-hour ticket costs €4, and it's valid for all means of transport.
If you have more time, you can take a day trip to the beautiful Halkidiki peninsula, which is only an hour's drive from Thessaloniki. You can also visit the nearby mountain of Olympus, the mythical home of the gods.
If you have less time, consider focusing on either the old town or the city center, depending on your interests. You can also skip some of the museums to save time and money.
Thessaloniki has one airport, Thessaloniki International Airport "Makedonia" (SKG), located about 16 km from the city center. You can take the shuttle bus or a taxi to get to the center within 30 minutes.
