Challenge yourself with a hike up Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek takes around 3-4 hours and rewards you with a heart-shaped lake at the top. The scenery on the way up is breathtaking, and the panoramic view from the summit is worth the trek. Don't forget to take plenty of water and snacks and wear proper hiking shoes.
Visit the Edakkal Caves, famous for their prehistoric rock art and scenic views. The caves are situated on top of Ambukutty Mala hill and require a short hike of around 45 minutes to reach. The interior of the caves is a maze of narrow passages and chambers with ancient engravings and wall paintings dating back to the Neolithic era. The view from the top of the hill is exquisite.
No trip to Wayanad is complete without visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. The Banasura hill ranges surrounding the area make for stunning views and recreation facilities like boating, trekking, and zip-lining. You can also enjoy a picnic with family or friends at one of the many designated spots at the dam.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush greenery, and the Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake, and wildlife sanctuary. If you have less time, you can skip the Banasura Sagar Dam or the Edakkal Caves, depending on your interests. Don't forget to carry plenty of sunscreen, water, and comfortable shoes.
