Start your day with a hike to Mullayanagiri peak, the highest peak in Karnataka, for a breathtaking view of the Western Ghats. The trek is slightly challenging but worth the effort. Carry snacks and water as there are no shops midway. Spend a few hours absorbing the stunning view and taking pictures.
From the peak, head to Hebbe Falls, surrounded by lush green forests and tea plantations. The drive to the falls is bumpy but scenic. You can take a jeep ride to the falls from the parking area. The water is icy cold, but you can take a refreshing dip in it. Have a packed lunch by the falls, and spend a relaxed afternoon.
Start your day with a tour of a coffee plantation. Learn about the history and origin of coffee and the process of growing and roasting it. You get to witness the different stages of coffee cultivation, right from the plantation to the final packaged product. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee while surrounded by nature.
After a morning of coffee and nature, head to the Belur and Halebidu temples. These temples are known for their intricate carvings and sculptures and are a fine example of Hoysala architecture. Spend a few hours exploring the temples and discovering their history and significance.
If you have an extra day, you can spend it visiting Kemmanagundi or Kudremukh. Carry comfortable shoes, first aid, and sufficient water while trekking. It is best to start early in the morning and return by evening as it gets dark quickly. Hotels and homestays are available in the city center and outskirts. You can try the famous Chikkamagaluru-style biryani, akki roti, and filter coffee from local eateries.
