Start your journey to Vaisnodevi by arriving in Katra, the base camp for the pilgrimage. After checking into your hotel, spend the morning exploring the town and its local markets. In the afternoon, visit the famous Banganga Temple, located near the Vaishno Devi Shrine. This temple is known for its sacred water pool. As evening approaches, head to the Ardhkuwari Temple, which is halfway to the main shrine. Spend some time in prayer and soak in the spiritual atmosphere.
Today, embark on a trek to the Vaishno Devi Shrine. Start early in the morning to avoid the crowds. The 13-kilometer uphill trek will take approximately 6-8 hours, depending on your pace. Along the way, you'll pass various landmarks and smaller temples, such as Adhkuwari and Sanjichhat. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lush greenery. Reach the Vaishno Devi Shrine by late afternoon and seek blessings from the Goddess.
After a day of trekking, take a relatively easier day to visit the Bhairavnath Temple and Bhawan. Begin with a visit to the Bhairavnath Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Bhairavnath, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. The temple is located around 2.5 kilometers from the Vaishno Devi Shrine and can be reached by ponies or on foot. In the afternoon, head back to the main shrine, known as Bhawan, and participate in the various rituals and prayers.
On your last day, check out from your hotel and make your way back to Katra. Spend the morning exploring the local markets and picking up souvenirs. If time permits, you can visit the famous Vaishno Devi Temple Museum to learn more about the history and significance of the pilgrimage. In the afternoon, depart from Katra and return to your onward destination, carrying the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi with you.
While visiting Vaisnodevi, consider exploring the surrounding areas as well. One hidden gem is the Shiv Khori Cave, located approximately 80 kilometers from Katra. This cave is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for its natural formation resembling the Shiva Lingam. Another local favorite is the Baba Dhansar Temple, situated near the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel Road. It features a beautiful waterfall and a revered Shiva Lingam. These off-the-beaten-path attractions provide a unique and tranquil experience away from the main pilgrimage route.
